Somehow, I thought just 14 days ago that Switzerland is an island of bliss. I looked at the statistics of new cases worldwide and was proud of how clever we do it in Switzerland. I was annoyed that I could not visit my mother because of the quarantine regulations (I am still annoyed and think that I made the wrong decision not to go!).

Irgendwie dachte ich noch vor 14 Tagen die Schweiz ist eine Insel der Glückseligkeit. Ich schaute die Statistiken der Neuerkrankungen weltweit an und war stolz wie schlau wir das da in der Schweiz machen. Ich hatte mich geärgert, dass ich meine Mutter wegen der Quarantänevorschriften nicht besuchten konnte (da ärgere ich mich immer noch und denke, dass ich damals die falsche Entscheidung getroffen hatte nicht zu fahren!!).

Ich fürchte mich von einem möglichen Lockdown. Die Vorstellung, dass wir, wie bereits in bestimmten Staaten, wieder eingesperrt werden, ist mehr als gespenstisch und jagt mir Angst ein. Ich werde meine Sorgen und Frustrationen durch Bewegung gut los. Bewegung in den eigenen 4 Wänden ist möglich aber sehr begrenzt. Die beste Art wie ich mich erholen kann, ist eine gute Strecke kräftig zu Kraulen. Schwimmen hilft immer. Danach ist der seelische Ballast zusammen mit vielen Kalorien aus meinem Körper raus und der Alltag kann wieder losgehen.

I am afraid of a possible lockdown. The idea that we will be locked up again, as is already the case in certain states, is more than spooky and scares me. I get rid of my worries and frustrations well through movement. Movement within your own four walls is possible but very limited. The best way I can recover is to do a good stretch of powerful crawling. Swimming always helps. Afterwards the mental ballast together with many calories is out of my body and the daily routine can start again.

Ich wollte bei meiner Mutter sein. Bin es aber nicht, weil das Land, in dem sie wohnt auf die Liste der Risikoländer gesetzt wurde. Das war ein Schock für mich. Meine Mutter geht auf die 80 zu, ist verwitwet und obwohl sie sehr selbständig ist, braucht sie Hilfe. Ich versprach ihr im September zu ihr zu kommen und ihr in Haus und Garten zu helfen, wo es notwendig ist. Als ich die Nachricht lass, dass das Land ab Montag auf der Quarantäneliste steht, musste ich erst herausfinden, was das bedeutet. Die Massnahmen sind drakonisch. 10 Tage lang in der Isolation nach der Rückkehr und das auch ohne Symptome und auch bei einem negativen Test. Damit ich mein Sohn nicht gefährde, müsste ich 10 Tage lang in meinem Zimmer bleiben.

I wanted to be with my mother. But unfortunately, I am not, because the country where she lives has been put on the list of risk countries. That was a shock for me. My mother is approaching the age of 80, is widowed and although she is very independent, she needs help. I promised to visit her in September and to help her in the house and garden where it is necessary. When I received the message that the country would be on the quarantine list from Monday on, I first had to find out what this meant. The measures are draconian. For 10 days in isolation after the return and that even without symptoms and even if the corona-test is negative. In order not to endanger my son, I would have to stay in my room for 10 days.
The internship
Leila was happy. The chance to do an internship and that in times of Corona was like winning the lottery. It was not just a normal hospital, but a medium sized, idyllically located private hospital. Leila was able to support for 6 weeks, she was the handyman. She was very much looking forward to the work and the world of the private hospital.
She really needed the money, because all the books she will need for the next semester of her studies cost a lot.

Leila war glücklich. Ein Praktikum in Zeiten der Corona zu ergattern ist wie ein Gewinn in Lotto. Noch dazu war es nicht irgendein Spital, sondern ein mittelgrosses, idyllisch gelegenes Privatspital. 6 Wochen konnte Leila dort aushelfen. Ihre Aufgabe konnte man beschreiben als Mädchen für alles. Sie freute sich sehr auf die Arbeit und die Welt des Privatspitals.
Das Geld konnte sie sehr gut gebrauchen, weil alle die Bücher, die sie für das nächstes Semester ihres Studiums brauchen wird, kosten viel Geld.
