A gut feeling

It is Sunday, the wind is sweeping over Lago Maggiore and creating small waves, sometimes with a sprinkling of white foam. I’m sitting in my Laser, a small one-man yacht, in which even when there is scarcely any wind one gets a wet bottom. I’m sailing from Ascona to Ronco with the objective of sailing round the tiny island of Brissago and then returning with a following wind to the harbour in Ascona.Read More »

The right choice of a profession

I don’t know how one chooses the right profession. I was lucky and have found my profession. I am an entrepreneur with heart and soul. I love motivating people so that we can achieve common goals. It’s fun to attract exceptional talents and to share in their development and at the same time to learn from them.Read More »

Charity run on the Platzspitz

730624_web_r_k_b_by_lupo_pixelio-deI am convinced that people need movement just as they need food. Without movement one becomes weak and it is no longer possible to function. Without food one dies, as one also does without movement, only perhaps it takes a bit longer than 3 weeks.

Gregor the egoist

766216_web_R_K_B_by_Rosel Eckstein_pixelio.deGregor was an egoist. An egoist straight out of a picture book and what’s more convinced that he was the best. Criticism bounced off him like water off an umbrella. Well intentioned feedback was welcome, if it was positive. I saw how time and again he picked the wild blackberries beside the lake and took them to her. They looked very content together. Read More »

Die-vier-Hauptlappen-Lobi-des-Neokortex-ThinkNeuroRecently, I had a coffee with Leonie. Leonie has three kids, all of them in puberty. This is a challenging period, when many things get out of balance. Not only with the adolescents themselves, but also in the relationship between them and their parents.

Leaving a tip in New York

310673_web_R_by_Jens Kühnemund_pixelio.deIt is not easy to find your way around the jungle of customs for leaving a tip in New York. As a European, I grew up thinking that if you receive a proper service, a tip is the acknowledgement for this effort. If the service was bad and the food barely eatable, there is no reason to tip. You will not come very far in New York with that mind-set. Well maybe you will, but you will provoke many uncomfortable encounters, you will be yelled at, threatened and you will feel rotten. I do not know if I am right, but based on my observations of the locals, I now have elaborated my strategy for tipping. Read More »

What would I do if I could start over

130249_web_R_by_Michael Sauer_pixelio.deIt’s march the 3rd and it snowing almost non-stop. Winter has returned with full force.

However, as you read this, our local ice-rink is preparing to close down. Regardless of wether it is +10°C or -10°C this weekend. This is because in Switzerland everything is nicely planned. Read More »
