I need to manage a lot of different projects at the moment. My calendar is fully booked and there isn’t space for anything new until the end of October. But when the call came in, I knew that it was an emergency and that I needed to help. I had to move all my appointments, had to apologise to a lot of people and arrange new meetings. Friday was thus fully booked out from morning till evening. As I travel a lot, I am well organised and I find packing easy. But because of this exceptional situation I had to take an additional bag.

Es gibt eine Menge Projekte, die ich derzeit bewältigen muss. Eigentlich ist mein Kalender ausgebucht und neue Sachen haben bis ende Oktober gar keinen Platz. Aber als der Anruf kam, war mir klar, dass es ein Notfall ist und ich helfen muss. Ich musste alle meine Termine ändern, mich bei einer Menge von Leuten entschuldigen und neue Termine abmachen. Der Freitag war somit voll und von Morgen bis zum Abend ausgebucht. Da ich viel reise, bin ich organisiert und das Packen fällt mir leicht. Aber wegen dieser Ausnahmesituation musste ich noch eine Tasche mitnehmen.

Susanne ist als junge Frau in die Politik eingestiegen. Sie war eine Ausnahmeerscheinung. Hübsch, klug, nett, kaum volljährig, hohe moralische Anforderungen für die Menschen um sie herum und vor allem an sich selber. Es gab keine Sitzung, zu der sie unvorbereitet erschien. Ich bin nicht ängstlich, aber der starke Wind der mich in unseren Ferien in der Nacht geweckt hatte, hat mir schon Respekt eingejagt. Es fühlte sich nicht an wie ein Blick aus dem Fenster sondern eher wie ein Film über eine Naturkatastrophe im Fernsehen. Irgendwie war alles in Bewegung, auch das was eigentlich stationär sein sollte. Wenn Äste, Unmengen von Blättern und Kleidungsstücke durch die Luft wirbelten wäre noch nachvollziehbar, aber als ich sah, mit welcher Leichtigkeit der Wind metallene Liegen anhob und in den Hotel Swimmingpool warf, wurde mir schon mulmig.

It didn’t feel like a view out of the window but more like watching a movie about natural disasters on the telly. Somehow everything was moving even when it was meant to be still. When branches, lots of leaves and clothing items flew through the air it was still understandable, but when I saw how the wind lifted the metal deckchairs up into the air and threw them into the swimming pool, I started to feel a little queasy.
