New York ist eine besondere Stadt. Jedes Mal wenn ich ankomme, merke ich die zusätzliche Energie, die diese Stadt durchströmt. Es ist wie ein Aufputschmittel, das mir injiziert wird. Ich kann mir schlechthin nicht vorstellen, dass es da irgend mal langweilig wird. Irgendetwas läuft immer. Kurz nach meiner Landung machte ich mich auf den Weg und spazierte durch die 5th Avenue zum Central Park. Wie immer war ich auf der Suche nach einem kleinen Geschenk für meinen Jüngsten. Er mag es überhaupt nicht, wenn ich ohne ihn unterwegs bin und das einzig, das ihn besänftigt sind die kleinen Geschenke, die ich ihm von meinen Reisen mitbringe. New York is a special city. Whenever I arrive, I feel the additional energy, which flows through this city. It is like a stimulant that is injected into me. I simply cannot imagine that it is boring there at any time. Something is happening the whole time. Shortly after landing I set out and walked down 5th Avenue to Central Park. As ever, I was on the lookout for a small present for my youngest child. He doesn’t like it at all when I travel without him, and the only thing that placates him are the small presents, which I bring him from my travels. The older he gets, the more difficult the search. What might the implications of Great Britain’s vote to leave be from a VAT perspective?

As the UK must give the European Council notice of intention to withdraw, there is likely to be a period where current law applies, both EU and UK law whilst a Brexit agreement is negotiated. All treaties would cease to apply from entry into force of the withdrawal agreement, or two years from the date of notice. We do not expect a considerable change for at least 2 years.

Which areas of VAT law might change in a UK free from the EU VAT directive?

In the short term at least, it is unlikely that the UK government will rip up VAT law – VAT accounts for >20% of UK tax revenues, is a relatively stable, understood tax – and thereforewholesale changes are unlikely. Read More »
