Ecuador – introduction of Bitcoins as a legal tender
- Ecuador intends to introduce its own virtual currency which would be however acknowledged as a legal tender
- Since 2000 Ecuador’s legal tender is the US Dollar (the original legal currency – Sucre was abolished after hyperdevaluation)
- New law introducing the virtual currency as a legal tender was accepted by the Parliament and now needs solely the President’s signature in order to enter into force

Portugal: Proposed VAT rate increase from 1 January 2015
Portugal considers increasing the standard VAT rate by 0.25%, to 23.25%.
The increase would result in the following standard VAT rate changes with regards to the three different regions: from 23% to 23.25% on the Portuguese mainland, from 22% to 22.25% in Madeira and from 18% to 18.25% in Azores.

European athletics championships – little mistakes
The weather did not mean it well with this event. Even though it was August, the temperatures were not summerlike and rain was a continuous attendant. But when I visited the final events on Sunday afternoon in the Letzigrund stadion, it was really summer. It was warm but not hot, sunny and friendly. Perfect for establishing new records. Unfortunately that did not happen but otherwise the afternoon was dramatic enough. Read More »

Das Wetter hat es nicht gut gemeint mit dieser Veranstaltung. Obwohl im August die Temperaturen nicht sommerlich waren und der Regen ein ständiger Begleiter war. Aber als ich am Sonntagnachmittag zu den finalen Veranstaltungen ins Letzigrund Stadion kam, war es wirklich Sommer. Es war warm, aber nicht heiss, sonnig und freundlich. Optimal um neue Rekorde aufzustellen. Das ist leider nicht passiert, aber der Nachmittag war sonst dramatisch genug.Read More »
