Role Summary
The VAT Manager Switzerland is the key contact for any indirect tax related topics for the Swiss based GE companies of the Power business. GE Power’s projects are complex, global and thus they involve multiple countries in the production, supply, shipment and installation. Indirect taxes are therefore a key component of a compliant and rigorous project execution.
Essential Responsibilities
- Providing indirect tax support to internal stakeholders (Business Projects, Shared Services, Direct Tax, Legal Management, Logistics) regarding Swiss and cross-border operations across multiply locations and VAT registrations (day-to-day advisory, reorganizations, projects’ execution etc.)
- Strategic and operative management of VAT-related communication with external auditors, advisors, suppliers and customers
- Management of Swiss group companies’ foreign VAT registrations and Swiss VAT group construction
- Advisory and ad-hoc support to Accounting Indirect Tax compliance function
- Support GE Global Operations Team in VAT filings and refunds
- Ongoing monitoring of local and international VAT regulations and change management of the impacted VAT processes
- Manage communications to the Swiss and foreign tax authorities and courts in relation to the indirect tax affairs of GE Swiss entities (e.g. litigation, indirect tax inspections and queries, rulings, 13 Directive VAT refunds etc.)
Qualifications/Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in law or economics or equivalent knowledge / experience
- Strong work experience (preferably in Big4) of relevant indirect tax advisory and compliance experience or within the tax team of a multinational company
- Experienced in providing VAT support on Swiss VAT topic
- Experienced in indirect tax compliance and reviewing indirect tax returns
- Understanding of controls and processes and able to make and implement changes
- Ability to research indirect tax laws and make recommendations to ensure full tax compliance and optimize recoveries
- Ability to communicate confidently and effectively with business partners, tax colleagues, tax authorities and auditors
- Assume ownership for in-scope processes and work independently in an international team
- Fluent in German and English (both speaking and writing)
- Strong SAP and Microsoft Office system skills
Desired Characteristics
- Basic understanding of Customs duties is a plus
- Further Tax or accounting specific education an asset
- Proven experience in advising on international VAT issues
- Good understanding of Swiss German
