My parents and grandparents had taught me to value craft. As a child with my mother I combed through countless barns, cellars, attics, storerooms and dilapidated houses, industrial ruins searching for old farm furniture, equipment, and tools. My mother has saved several items for the ensuing ages and carefully restored what would have been lost otherwise.Read More »

Read More »
Australia – GST Treatment of Cross-Border Transactions – GST changes to B2C and B2B supplies – new exposure draft released
Treasury has released a second exposure draft legislation on the Government’s integrity measures to extend the GST to imported digital products and other services. The exposure draft also seeks comments on provisions to give effect to the announced measure relating to GST cross-border business to business transactions and the ‘connected with Australia’ rules.
Treasury has noted that as a result of feedback from consultation (including feedback from a number of international suppliers that have had experience in dealing with similar provisions in other jurisdictions), changes have been made to the content of the earlier exposure draft. This is especially in relation to the Australian Consumer test and also the operation of the intermediary provisions. Read More »

France – reduction of the VAT threshold for distance sales as from 1 January 2016 suggested
On 30 September 2015 the French government presented the draft of the Finance Act for 2016. The most interesting piece seems to be reduction of the VAT threshold for distance sales made in France by a supplier established in another EU Member State from EUR 100’000 to EUR 35’000 (article 3 of the Bill).
This needs to be confirmed as the draft will be discussed in the coming months.

Top Women in Tax – please nominate your candidate until 15 December 2015
20 years ago, at the time when VAT was introduced in Switzerland, men were not really interested in this field. There was too little prestige, too little to shine. The opinion of the tax community at that time was that VAT is hardly relevant for businesses as it is a transit tax and only causes pain to end consumers who have to pay the VAT. Its true for the majority of the companies that VAT is a transit tax IF EVERYTHING IS IMPLEMENTED CORRECTLY. Read More »
One Sunday in Zug – Vintage car show
If you buy an electrical appliance in Switzerland, the consumer pays a recycling fee at the time of purchase and the fee is not inexpensive. For a washing machine you will have to pay 30 CHF. Actually, you could just pay this at the time of disposal, but the lawgiver does not trust its citizens. Who knows how we dispose of all of our old phones, tablets and small appliances? Some of them would end up in the regular rubbish bin, probably as a result of our inclination towards convenience or thriftiness. Read More »
Sonntag in Zug – Oldtimer treffen
