Our new pets – lice

About lice I read the first time when reading Karl May. Since then I associated lice with poverty, dirt and crowded living conditions. My real world had nothing to do with lice.

Since one year I regularly receive papers from the school regarding lice infestation. I looked at the hair of my junior but I would have been very surprised if I had found something. Nothing was there. See, lice are something for a slum area but not for our hygienic household.

On the weekend I was running and below the cap the scalp was itching abnormally. But I was running for almost two hours in a hilly area and was sweating a lot.

But even after an extensive shower the itching did not stop. I scratched myself over and again and it did not stop. Suspicious I took a narrow spaced comb. And look there, I had visitors, which felt very much at home. I had never before seen lice but the Internet confirmed my fear. Our new pets were numerous and lively!! But where did they come from?

I looked through junior’s hair and also discovered lice in his hair. Now it was clear where they had come from. School is not just bringing positive things.

We bought lice spray and a comb. I meticulously sprayed every single hair of my junior and massaged and combed the head. The entire procedure took almost an hour and junior really enjoyed it. His fine neck hairs were raised in pleasure. It was an intensive and long head massage.

The same I did also with my hair but it was not funny. Obviously, if one is doing it by oneself. Hoping that the lice are removed, we went to bed.

About two weeks later I asked my junior what he would like to have for his 6th birthday. He was thinking incredibly long and then he said: “I would like to have lice.”

First I thought I am not hearing correctly. But he repeated it when he saw my sceptical expression.

“Why?” I asked surprised.

“I would like you to comb out the lice again. That felt so good.”

Dear friends, please do not send him any lice for his birthday. He will get his head massage. Let’s see whether I can do it that well without the lice.
