What a day – how little it needs to make a day perfect

It’s hot, I am wearing a canary-yellow business skirt, a sleeveless shirt and I am sweating!! I just said good-bye to a good friend at Zurich main station. She moved to Ticino many years ago and we are only meeting twice a year. Today we just managed to meet for 30 minutes. She is in business, like me. Nevertheless a year’s changes can be brilliantly summarized in 30 minutes. The children are fine, the small ones are already in nursery school, the husbands are almost never at home and we are both successfully handling business and family. Kiss on the left and right. We will meet soon. Two ladies who already passed their 40^th birthdays.

And then I am taking the train to Hardbrücke. I have to run to platform 21 in order to reach the train. I get off the train and walk to the next meeting in Zurich West. I have a business meeting, millions are to be won or lost. Everyone is moved by the idea of winning them. My thoughts are already with the meeting. Then I hear a voice “do you have time for a coffee?” I turn to the voice and see a young, good-looking man. About half my age. I stare at him in disbelief. Something like this did not happen to me for a very long time. I am out of practice. My silence and puzzled look unsettle him. “I really mean just a coffee”, he says emphatically. “There is this small bar where I work, just come with me”, he says and turns towards Abaton cinema. I think it’s a good idea. He seems shy but convincing. It’s a good feeling but I cannot come. What a pity! He gives me the name of the bar and I promised to come if possible.

However, as so often in life, everything turns out different. The meeting takes forever, a lot of money is at stake and by the time the meeting is finished, after having found a good solution, it’s already dark and cold. A terrible change in weather had occurred. Duties had won over quitting time and now I am cold and just want to go home. But inside I am feeling great. Thanks for the invitation for coffee – you just made my day 😉 !!”
