My Blog

I am now writing my blog for two months, every week. It’s fun. Why? Because people read it. I receive feedback. There is nothing worse than writing for the drawer only.

There are all kinds of reactions. The scope is broad. From enthusiasm to rejection. If one has an opinion, one has to expect that not everyone shares your opinion. It’s just surprising to see who shares your opinion and who does not.

However I now really realize how dangerous it is to have an own written opinion (even though it is about harmless things). Many things can be said verbally. Verbally one can even be brave, at best when there are no witnesses. But who knows nowadays for sure that what you say is not recorded. Perhaps it is still better to be brave? The motto is usually to keep a low profile!!

If one is writing, words have to be weighed very carefully. At work, when I’m writing a professional opinion, a contract or an appeal, it is the same. Only, at work, the consequences are limited to a wrong or inaccurate statement, even though a wrong statement can cost a lot of money. A written opinion in the WorldWideWeb is virtually forever and may have unexpected consequences. Perhaps I will be denied a mortgage in the future, may not be able to travel to certain countries or a company will not supply me as a customer. And why? Because someone doesn’t like my opinion.

I think it is still worth to have an own opinion. When I hear that my colleague shows the blog to his wife, so that he can buy an Audi A5 (see blog: A5 and a flirt). Or when I see the growing number of people subscribing to my blog in order to receive every new entry. But also when I receive negative feedback, causing sleepless nights. Just as last week when a good friend said: “Do you really need to write such weird (?!) stories? Can’t you just earn your money with tax advisory!!??”

With your permission, I will do both!
